According to the Alachua County Library website, Huggins-Stengel Field (formerly known as Crescent Lake Field or Miller Huggins Field) is a baseball field located within Crescent Lake Park in St. Petersburg, Florida, United States. It was originally constructed in 1925 as a Spring Training practice field for the New York Yankees and later hosted the New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles . Stengel Field, near the present location of Butler Plaza on Archer Road, was used as an airport. Carl Stengel ran a flight school here that was very popular with University of Florida students. He first started giving his lessons at the site of Gainesville Regional Airport in the 1930s before the military took it over.
